Investor question 36 of 50 · The raise
“Why are you raising equity and not debt?”
Short answer: the investor is really asking do you understand your financing options? Answer in three steps: (1) explain why debt doesn't fit yet (no profits, high risk); (2) mention any debt in the plan; (3) show how equity funds growth.
What they're really asking
Do you understand your financing options? Investors rarely care about the question on its own. They're testing whether you know your numbers cold, whether your assumptions are honest, and whether you can explain them simply.
How to answer, step by step
- Explain why debt doesn't fit yet (no profits, high risk).
- Mention any debt in the plan.
- Show how equity funds growth.
